New flights to Lamezia Terme

July 15, 2008

Looking to capitalise on gaps left by Alitalia’s retreat, Air One has started a new domestic daily route from Milan Malpensa to Lamezia Terme. The airline will go head-to-head with Volareweb who also operate daily on this route. Previously announced plans to serve Bari (BRI) on a daily basis from MXP appear to have been shelved. The airline would have been competing against both Alitalia (12 weekly flights) and easyJet (14 weekly flights) for this route.

Villa Destinations within easy reach of Lamezia

July 11, 2008

Here at Lamezia Airport Car Hire we get lots of enquiries asking us where to go for different types of holidays.   More and more we get asked about good villa holiday complexes.   We know of quite a few in and around Lamezia but perhaps one of the best if - La Conchiglia.   It  is located in southern Italy at Capo Vaticano, an area of Calabria known for its wonderful coastline and very safe beaches. From here, the more adventurous can explore this unknown corner of Italy - but keep it a secret!

La Conchiglia is a small family run collection of villas and apartments scattered throughout the large grounds, from which a path leads down to a sandy beach. There are 10 x 2 bedroom villas in the  gardens, 1 x double and 1 x  twin. All the villas have a kitchen and excellent bathrooms.

Close by is Villa Karen which comprises of 4 x 3 bedroom apartments with air conditioning. Please note that during high season, music can sometimes be heard from the beach from this property. However, it does not continue beyond midnight - in fact you may want to join the party.

7 x 2 bedroom apartments are situated in a parkland area towards the back of the property and are furnished to the same excellent standards as all the villas.

Self-catering at La Conchiglia is simple. The nearest shops are a short drive away in  San Nicolo di Ricardi, which also has several bars and restaurants. Alternatively you can eat at the restaurant at La Conchiglia, where you can enjoy delicious traditional southern Italian dishes and admire the view towards Stromboli.

There is a large swimming pool at La Conchiglia as well as a small children’s pool, and the beach, where motor boats and windsurfers can be rented, is only a five to ten minute walk. However, there is also a shuttle bus service.

For the more active, tennis courts and horse riding are close by, and bicycles can be hired to explore the area. Alternatively, small harbour towns and secluded beaches are waiting to be discovered by those wishing to venture further afield.

La Conchiglia is ideal for families or couples looking for value for money in a beautiful part of Italy. Capo Vaticano is particularly lively during the peak months of July and August, with many bars and restaurants offering a wide variety of options should you wish to dine out.
